Bracing for Winter
There's a sense of impending doom in the air. Everybody is talking about it. We are getting ready for a record setting snowfall. We are being advised to stay home this weekend, have a 3-day supply of food on hand, and prepare for potential power outages. In over 30 years of living in a province of extreme winters, there's only one other time I can recall life being seriously disrupted and the city basically shutting down because of a blizzard, and that was 13 years ago! I never had a snow day in school, not even when the temperature had a windchill of -50 degrees C... or colder. Blizzards come and go in Saskatchewan and life continues to happen despite the weather.
It's funny to think that today could be as lovely as it was, but will change so drastically by tomorrow. The ground was brown with fallen leaves, the temperature was decent, and there wasn't too much wind. By Saskatchewan standards, that's a pretty beautiful day for November. There's something romantic about the idea of a blizzard so bad that it keeps you trapped inside your home, warm and cozy, for a whole weekend. The problem is that eventually it will be time to dig your way out and get back to reality.
If anybody needs me this weekend, I'll be beneath 50 cm of snow...
